Crystal Marshall is a researcher interested in studying Black film archival history, labor relations within the Hollywood film industry, and film pedagogy. The anti-canon project was born from a semester-long independent research project,“Towards Transformation: A Call for the Reimagination of the Film Canon,” investigating the contents of the contemporary film canon and its representation of Black and female filmmakers. This project is the second of its kind by Crystal. In 2022, she created the Renaissance Archive, a digital archive (also communally curated) of Black films and television shows released between 1990 to 2009 that showcase Black joy. The site directs users to streaming platforms where those programs are available to view. A portfolio of her works to date is available here.
Crystal can be contacted at [email protected]. Please feel free to contact her with questions about this project or any of her other research projects. |
